Club Kudos

A Summer of Inspiration and Connection

Connect with our creative community by joining us on the Club HM Facebook page. Daily challenges, shout-outs and suggestions for improving our creations help all of us get the most from our Club HM membership. Here’s a little sample of our summer-themed challenges.

Beach Challenge
Colleen Ballantine was a winner in our Beach Challenge with her double, 12 x 12 scrap page entry on a look back at childhood in Atlantic City. It’s in the Template Gallery as template 90702, "Beach Challenge." Cassie Balser took the same theme in a more philosophical direction with her winning entry on an 8 x 8 canvas. Each a unique take on the subject, they are typical of the varied inspiration and execution found daily on Club HM.

Sports Themed Challenges
Challenges on the Club HM page often show off sports and their participants. In a recent “Sporting Event Challenge,” inspiration was to be had from many entries, winners or not, that were a wonderful source of ideas and design approaches. Kim Matura was a winning entry with her canvas showing off her triplets. But Andrea Van Steenkist‘s entry simply caught our eye as did Jesi Ostrowsky’s “Baseball Poster.”

Summer Inspiration
A recent “Slice of Summer” challenge asked Club HM members to “Show us a meaningful moment from your summer vacation, picnic, sports event, garden growing or other summer daily activity. Tara Jones created a 12 x 12 scrap page called “Slice of Summer,” template 91256 and was one of our winners. The other was Colleen Ballantine, who created a card thanking family for their summer visit.

Studio Savvy
Challenges at the beginning of each month are often focused on how best to use new art collections. One of our recent challenges was to use the sunshine and color-packed “Sweet Caroline” collection. Sherita Jarrell made a heart-touching 7 x 5 greeting card, while Val Parrish and Floyce Mord (template 91722) designed 12 x 12 pages. While not all winners submit their projects to the Template Gallery, their entries are a constant source of creative inspiration to us all.

Club Kudos

The Club HM Facebook page was designed just for you. Visit today and you can be part of a supportive community that focuses on learning, growing and sharing. We offer tips to teach, answers to questions, and creative challenges to help us appreciate new art, try new products and learn different ways to document our life stories.

Learning a New Approach
In a recent “No Faces, Photo Challenge” Club HM Facebook members were challenged to document a relationship without showing any faces. The inspiration piece for the challenge was Renee Lamb’s “Unbreakable Bond” a 12 x 12 scrap page, template 78444. Renee’s page showed her three step-daughters sitting on a fence holding hands. The “unbreakable” bond illustrated in the photo was a powerful lesson to many of us on the Club HM page that faces are not always the best focal point for a relationship photo.

Club HM member entries poured in for this one-winner-only challenge, and many were the most striking projects ever posted on Club HM. Some of those in the running to win were Tina Snider’s project “made from a photo she had taken the previous year and loved and Karen Cattles’ project “Love is Color Blind” honoring her new grandson.

Lisa Iwata adapted a page from a page she’s made previously featuring her daughter and her three best college friends. Michelle Bedard’s 12 x 12 scrap page, “A Happy Day” had recently become template 32514 in the Template Gallery and was also a big hit.

And the Winner Was . . .
Our "No Faces" Challenge was one of the most moving challenges we've ever had. From tiny baby hands to children led along by Dad and babies yet to be born, we LOVED how many ways our Facebook Club HM members found to demonstrate deep relationships without showing faces. Our final winner was Jan Stamm for her touching portrait of mom and grandma lovingly preparing the bride for her wedding. It’s a 12 x 12 scrap page, now template 82049 and called "Three Generations of Love."

The Real Winners
The real winners on the Club HM pages are the thousands of participants that learn and grow each day. Join us. We’d love to have you.

Club Kudos - "No Faces" Challenge

The Club HM Facebook page was designed just for you. Visit today and you can be part of a supportive community that focuses on learning, growing and sharing. We offer tips to teach, answers to questions, and creative challenges to help us appreciate new art, try new products and learn different ways to document our life stories.

Club Kudos - February

Visit our Club HM Facebook page and you’ll see why so many Club members visit every day and love every minute. You’ll find challenges to inspire, instruct and stretch you. You can ask for help or feedback and get tips and encouragement from other fans. You’ll see an occasional “Tip of the Day” or personal message from HM Home Office with additional tricks to make designing fast and easy. If you’ve never visited, do it today. Here’s what to watch for.

Studio Challenges

If you like a little competition and love designing in Studio, our challenges will keep you hopping. We have one nearly every day and the winners receive points as prizes. Shown above are the “Owl Always” challenge winners, where Club HM page members were asked to design any page or project from a brand new art collection called “Owl Always.” Cassie Balser’s entry is on the right. It’s a square flip book that tells a child about his or her parent’s love for them. It’s now a very welcome addition to the Template Gallery as template 79374. Rebecca Klompstra’s winning entry for the challenge was a 12 x 12 scrap page.

A later challenge encouraged page members to add a little grunge to their pages using stains, distressed frames, torn edges, paint splatters, ripped cardboard and faded text.

Jeanne Coto was the winner of this challenge and her entry is now available as template 79619, "Grunge Bathtime."

In a “Name Tile” challenge page members designed name tiles made on 12 x 12 scrap pages. As with every challenge, many of the entries, winning or not are submitted to the Template Gallery, giving us lots more templates to choose from. Shown above are two entries from that challenge entries that went on to become templates. Kim Reynolds “Wings,” template 79173 and Rebecca Klompstra’s “Life's too short to drink cheap wine,” template 79249 are both wonderful additions to the Template Gallery that came about because of a challenge.

Tip of the Day

The Club HM Facebook page keeps ticking along every weekday. Over weekends and holidays, there are still challenges, but there are also design tips and tricks posted that we call “Tip of the Day.” A recent “Tip of the Day” is outlined here and illustrated above.

Tip of the Day: When designing with circles, insert 1000 into the "ROUND CORNERS" input box instead of using the slider bar. Why? A 1,000 input will keep your circle perfectly shaped no matter how many times you change your mind about its size. If you use your slider bar, you'll need to adjust every time you change your circle's size.

Inspiration, Instruction and Community

Club HM Facebook fans love the support and inspiration that they find on the Club HM Facebook page. Questions are answered, projects are “oohed” and “aahed” over and inspiration is everywhere. If you haven’t joined our online community, do it today. We’d love to see you there.

A recent post on Club HM probably sums it up best:

“Today is National Compliment Day - so I created this to share with people like all of you. Your sharing on this page is so kind. And the support of each other is so heart-warming. What a nice place to visit each day!”
- Kimberly Keber

Thanks Kimberly, we agree.
